Super Saturday Series features Making Mosaics workshop for children ages 4 through 8

Center, TX – The Super Saturday Series children’s art program will feature a Making Mosaics workshop with instructor, Carrie Weeks, on Saturday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lakes Area Arts League Art Center located at 305 Nacogdoches Street.

Space is limited to 15 participants and workshop fees are $20 per student, which includes all art supplies. Advance reservations are required and the registration deadline is Friday, May 1, 2009.
Due to the popularity of the Super Saturday Series workshops, the enrollment age has been increased to include children from ages 4 to 8. Children will work with a variety of objects to design their very own mosaic at the May workshop. Remaining Super Saturday Series workshops for 2009 include Red, White & Blue June 27; Sunshine & Seashells July 11; Having a Blast with Buttons August 8; Autumn is Awesome September 5; Happy Haunting October 10; Being Thankful for Arts & Crafts November 14; and Celebrating Christmas on December 19. Each workshop requires advance registration and an enrollment fee.

CENTER, Texas – April 24 – The Lakes Area Arts League announces the winners in recent 2009 Open Photography Show. The exhibition invited student, amateur and professional photographers to submit images in either monochrome or color in a range of categories including People, Animals, Still Life, Landscape, Flora, Architecture, Abstract, Special Effects, and a Special Themed category for Historical Sites and Buildings.
Kate Davis from San Augustine received the President’s Choice Overall Best of Show Award. The Director’s Choice Awards were presented to James Heiman, Student Division; Barbara Russell, Amateur Division; and Camille Cooper, Professional Division. The public was invited to vote on their favorite photograph and the winners of the People’s Choice Awards include James Heiman, Student Division; Thomas Morrison, Amateur Division; David Danley, Professional Division.
