Super Saturday Series children workshop features Sunshine and Seashells

Center, TX – The Super Saturday Series children’s art program will feature a Sunshine and Seashells workshop offering a variety of crafts celebrating summer with instructor, Carrie Weeks, on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lakes Area Arts League Art Center located at 305 Nacogdoches Street.


Space is limited to 15 participants and workshop fees are $20 per student, which includes all art supplies. Advance reservations are required and the registration deadline is Friday, July 9, 2009.

Remaining Super Saturday Series workshops for 2009 Having a Blast with Buttons August 8; Autumn is Awesome September 5; Happy Haunting October 10; Being Thankful for Arts & Crafts November 14; and Celebrating Christmas on December 19. Each workshop requires advance registration and an enrollment fee.

Superhero Mini Art Camp held at LAAL Art Center

Center, Texas – Batman and Superman, make room for the new Superheroes in town! Under the artistic guidance of instructors, LeAnne Rheaume and Donna Neuville, the first Make Me a Superhero Mini Art Camp was successfully held June 24-26 at the Lakes Area Arts League Art Center. The art camp offered students an opportunity to develop individual superheroes through writing essays and comic storyboards, creating character personalities, role playing and designing costumes.

Superheroes attending the art camp included Trey ‘Super Lighting’ Harvey, Alayna ‘Love Girl’ Scull, Jonica ‘Ice Girl’ Glaze, Holden ‘The Scarlet Beast’ Massey and Adam ‘The Forgotten One’ Shofner.

Art camp volunteers assisting the superheroes were Tina Smith, Tiffany ‘Spectrum’ Rheaume, Edgardo Cortez, Sam ‘Dr. Bonehead’ Beasley and Derek ‘The Glue Wizard’ Hughes.

LeAnne Rheaume, creator of the Superhero Art Camp, is a 2009 graduate of Center High School and will be attending Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, Denver, Colorado in the fall.

Donna Neuville currently teaches Art I and Art II at Center Middle School. Previously, Neuville taught art at the primary level with CISD for three years and at Mineola Elementary School for ten years. Her educational background includes obtaining her degrees in M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Art Concentration and B.S. in Education from the University of Texas in Tyler. Neuville currently serves on the LAAL board of directors and Education Committee.
